The Coton De Tulear

This lovely breed is known as the Royal Dog Of Madagascar. The story told is that visiting sailors were responsible in introducing a little white dog to the island and these dogs bred with the native dogs. The dogs produced was so special and rare that only the nobility were allowed to own them. The numbers of Cotons in UK are growing but they are still quite rare.

The Coton has the most wonderful temperament. They are loving, mischievous, cautious, funny, energetic bundles of fur and there is never a dull moment. They are companion dogs and so their purpose in life is to give their owner love and they need to be loved. They are not a dog who can be left for hours without company. Their coat is thick and continues to grow and so they need to have daily grooming. If they are shown their coat should not be cut but if they are kept as pets they can be trimmed to a puppy cut. About Us - Annie & Clive Lorton

We live in a village just outside Oxford and have owned dogs for most of our married life. We came across the beautiful Coton de Tulear dogs when we went to Crufts and found them in the Discover dogs section. Our daughter in law is very allergic to all animals and this took a part in our deciding we must have one.

Since we were lucky enough to get our first Coton, Phoebe, we have been showing her and have learnt a new way of having fun with our dogs. However, one dog was not enough and now we have Lily, Streaptease and Mia as well.
